I went into a gun store the other day to pick up some ammo. Of coarse I ended up buying a Remington target tactical 308 with a bushnell elite 6x24 scope. I will be using this for 200 meter target only. Just wondering if anybody has any prior experience with this rifle. Also wondering what type of factory ammo it may like. I was told 168 grain horn addy is a good place to start. Any other suggestions?

Sorry Remington 700 target tactical

I have experience with this rifle. Decent enough rifle, but stock factory Rem Tacs don't have the smoothest actions in my opinion. There is a reason for all kinds of aftermarket upgrades and fine tuning gunsmithing for Rem 700's. And some of these can end up matching the cost of the stock rifle to begin with!

I have a Remington SPS tactical in 308 that really likes the Hornady Custom 168 gr Match ammo. I couldn't find any of that for awhile so I am currently shooting the 168 gr Match AMAX, it also works quite well. My gun has a 1:12 twist though and yours does not so it might like something different. I personally found the Hornady Match ammo to be the best (in my rifle) but the gold standard for 308 match ammo is Federal Gold Medal Match.

Best of luck.
