What will work and what should be avoided.
The choke is for lead only and measures 0.665 inside diameter.
Can 00 buck be used?
Finding BB and 2's or 4 buck is challenging in the 3" Magnum loads.
 
I order a choke on line called a dead coyote.from Carlson ,it was a supper full choke and was ment for buck shot ,I used it for turkey hunting as well with very good patterns ,so I would you will be fine with lead buck shot ,you may want to watch out for the real hard stuff like copper platted stuff .but lead should be fine ,,Dutch
 
I would second the #4 buck in the super tight chokes. There is a couple of mfg's out there marketing #4 Buck Coyote loads.

When I shotgun hunted for deer I was one of those guys that used buckshot (00) which I shot without issue using a full choke (which patterned the best, despite the "recommendation" to use a more open choke with buckshot).

I don't think running 00 or even 000 buck through an extra full choke would "hurt the gun" but you might not get the best pattern - try some and see if that's what you want to use.
 
Dutchhunter: I'm wondering what brand , load and size buckshot you used and how many yards with what type of success you had . I bought the same choke for my 11 87 at the recommendation of a Carlsson rep. who said he had the same gun and it worked great . The package said up toooo ... 70 yds., which i took lightly and has not lived up to expectations . Best i could get was 4 or 5 pellets @ 40 yds ., with various brands of #4 buck used in a medium size shoot and see target . Some hornady #4 pellets never made it through eighth inch cardboard ( Premium priced ammo in price only ). 50 yds., saw 1 or 2 pellets at best . I planned on using it for coyotes but get better success with a stock I.C. choke @ 50yds. After reading a few threads on different forums , i have decided that if i purchase another choke it will either be a kicks or pattern master . I have purchased 2 chokes already and one can still be used for other purposes . Hopefully this " coyote choke " works better on turkey should i decide to hunt them as the rep. said if it didn't work to my liking he'd refund me , then dished it off to Carlsson , who passed it back to the rep .
 
I like the federal flight control wad #4 buck shot ,I did have very good luck with the Carlson tube with the same shell in #5 lead ..the flight control wad seems to really work well ,in most guns ,,40 to 50 yards is about all you want to shot at coyotes ,with #4 buck ,,it works well if you are in tight spots in the thick stuff ,,Dutch
 
I had heard from a couple sites , talking about using copper plated pellets for better penetration through the fur. Not sure of the size . Have to find the articles again . A guy on a predator show was using Blind Side in i think BBB's a couple weeks ago .
 
Of the coyotes I've brought down with scatter guns and buck shot. Plain lead buffalo bore worked the best for penetration the lead really deforms in the yote and kills fast. I use only #4 buck now when using buck shot. BB works just fine out to 50 yards. I've never had much luck with 000 buck and patterning tightly
The fixed full chokes of my sxs guns like Remington #4 buck when I can find 2 3/4" shells. My mossberg full choke keeps the 41 pellet 3" shells pretty tight.
 
If anyone needs info on shooting buckshot for coyotes. I'd suggest going to the predator masters website under the firearms section and the 3rd thread has 77 pages of info about patterning buckshot. Including detailed testing with picture evidence. Never seen a more detailed or complete discussion about paterning buck shot for killing predators. It's worth reading all 77 pages!
