Does anyone have any experience with these rifles. My buddy wants one and is trying to scrape together the funds as they have been discontinued. thanks for any help. Kevin.

Xr 100

My buddy built a fantastic .223 out of one, I've got a 6BR made out of one, love the little rifle. Another friend had a bone stock .223, with benchmark powder he was hard to beat when it comes to shooting thumbtacks at 100 yds.

They are an excellent platform. I have one in 6BR, and another in 6X47 Lapua and a third destined for a 6.5X55. (None of them ever having fired a single factory 22-250 before they were japed-up) The actions are fantastic, rigid, single shot and compatible with Remington triggers. I only wish Remington had a factory adjustable butt plate with them because they're too short for me. The stock is versatile and will readily accept a heavy palma contour, or with some work, a full varmint contour.

See Richard's recently completed 6BR; he has 2 as well. I know of 6 others locally that have all been converted into outstanding precision rifles.

Mine had enough wood to accommodate a straight blank, others have not been so lucky though. Luck of the draw I guess.

As Obtunded mentioned I have 2 XR-100's One converted to 6BR as per the post above and the other still in stock condition 22-250. Here are some results from some tests I did with 50gr V-Max the other day.

3 shot groups as I only had 44 bullets and 7 loads to test in 2 rifles.

22-250
50grn Hornady V-Max
Remington Cases
Hodgdon Varget
CCI 200 Primers
3 shot groups @ 100m

XR-100
34.5 - .484
35 - .956
35.5 - .310
36 - .783
36.5 - .310
37 - .941
37.5 - .212

The other rifle I was testing at the time was wearing my XR take-off 22-250 barrel.

Say what they've discontinued the XR-100?
Well that brings my rifle count to 3 rifles out of 8 that they have discontinued shortly after I bought one. :(

My XR-100 has creep in the trigger. I took off the trigger guard and used the adjustment screw to bring the trigger weight as low as it would go. With the low setting the trigger creep is nullified. However it still bugs me. I'm hoping it will smooth out with use.

I bought the .204 by the way. It's stock.

The trigger on my newly acquired one has considerable creep that I cannot get rid of with adjusting. I am going to throw on my take off trigger from my other XR until I get a Jewel for it.

I really appreciate the info. Now all we have to do is find one and snap it up. I was talking to two wholesalers the other day and they both said they didn't have any and they were not available. I see they still have them on the remington web site so sent them an email to see what it going on. I tried to phone Wholesale sports this afternoon and got the elevator music and canned voice to many times. Thanks again for the help. Kevin.

Can anyone explain the difference between the XR-100 and the 700 models? Sounds to me like the only major difference is that they're set up as single shots?

Basically wondering if a sight base for the XR100 would fit a 700. Leupold lists a dual dovetail one piece mount for the XR 100 but not for the 700.

The XR 100 uses the XP100 pistol action. It is quite different dimensionally being 5/8" shorter The sight bases are different too. The action is very well made. The model 600 was similar as I recall

If you want a similar rifle with a 700 action, They have the 700 VLS

I'm a bit disapointed with the creep in the trigger. My Remington R5 milspec has the new Xmark pro trigger. Although my XR-100 is a lot lighter, the R5 trigger has zero creep. It's perfect for a "tactical" rifle.

I might take it into my gunsmith and see what he can do. I haven't decided yet.

I have zero creep in my XR-100 in 204. I was the first year production. Perhaps the later ones had crappier triggers.? As for the differance in receivers, the XR is a heavier receiver being a single shot.

The XR uses the same bases as the Model 600 and Model 7 actions.

I see, thanks. Guess I'll never find a dual dovetail one piece mount. Not an affordable one anyway. Looking for something similar to what was used on the original M40 sniper rifles.

Hijack ends.

So what calibers will fit in XR/model 7 actions?

Everybody makes one piece bases for the XR/XP! Ken Farrell bases are my personal favorite.

It is a short action, which means that if you want to eject a round with the bullet still on it, you'd be looking no longer than a 308 or its dimensional progeny (243, 260, 7-08). or any brass casing less than 65mm.
