I have to laugh every time I hear that they don't. My brother just picked up an SPS .223. I bedded it into an Alaskan Ti B&C stock, lapped the Talley rings, and installed the VX 3 3.5-10X40 with an M1 Friday night. Yesterday we took it out and with his first load handloads consisting of 40 gr BT's behind Benchmark at 3800 fps this is what I was able to pull off from a bipod in a mild hurricane. Not bad for an $850 "custom" rifle. We didn't even wish he had bought a Tikka. Not even just a little. :)

funny, the remmys were good enuff for snipers in 'nam- it's always the same old question; is it the rifle or the shooter?- 9/10s of the time it's the shooter

Damn shame remingtons don't shoot. Shoulda' bought a Salvage or PlasTikka....

Rem's dont shoot...here's factory core lokts, lug dab bedded...should shoot better once I actually work on a load and sit it in a good stock, pardon the target. 0.68"

Ever since Remington was sold by DuPont in the early 1990s, the quality has dropped and current Remington do have quality controls issues:
  • My 2010 Remington 700 243 Win VTR which did not feed well (easy fix)
  • My 2011 Remington 700 270 WSM CDL FS had a minute bump of the bolt head (fixed in 1 week by Remington, a huge dangerous issue)
Not paying enough attention to details do not turn a good design into a bad design but it will lead do dissatified customer and a tarnished reputation.

I'm still a huge Remington 700 fan since no competing rifle delivers such good accuracy, durability, solidity and a wide variety of accessoricies at a reasonable cost.

I have never said tbey dont shoot. Just that my bone stock $270 Stevens 200 shoots just as good or better!

No bedding! No fancy scope and lapped rings! Just a $150 Bushnell Banner!

Oh and mine shoots 5 shot groups as well!

Those ar 1 inch squares/circles! ;)
