hey guys im looking to replace the short barrel on my reminton 700 sps tactical .223 1-9 twist with a longer barrel for acuracy . who makes them and what would you recomend replacing it with.

thanks

With the tactical there are a lot of things I would do before the barrel. New stock, properly bed said stock, new trigger. While doing these upgrades shoot the crap out of that barrel and then replace it.

A longer barrel does not mean more accuracy, it means more velocity... although you will usually get both when a quality barrel is installed replacing a factory barrel.

...There are many quality barrel makers and many qualified smiths to install them.

Remember that .223 is a smaller round and it does not need to long of a barrel for the gasses to expand. Im a milsurp guy and am just getting into precision shooting. Right now im only going to be shooting out to 250 yrds max so my 20" .308 barrel will be sufficient.

I would suggest a Krieger 1:8 twist 26" Remington Varmint Contour. It should fit your existing stock and will be great for bullets up to 80 grains.

Replacing the barrel should be the "crown jewel" in a makeover that includes action accurization, bedding, and trigger adjustment/replacement. Competent gunsmiths like Guntech can turn your rifle into a hummer.

thanks for the imput guys , yes i think the stock is a must as well along with bedding. currently the stock is the biggest issue . if you grip it the rong way it touches the barrel and POOF off into the rubarb gose the bullet.

i am looking for a good gun smith localy ( im in kamloops ) i think i may go with jennings . he had done some work on my fathers gun back in the day.

I would rethink using Jennings. Haven't heard good things about him.

Give Mick McPhee a call. One of the best in Western Canada.

He's in the phone book on Patricia on the north shore.

i herd there was a guy out there maby i will, i think i bumped into a guy at the range that was talking about him. said nothing but good things to.
