I picked up 500 rds of remington/umc 223 and have been
reading in various places that this is not very good ammo
and is dirty. Is this true?I have not had a chance to shoot
any off it yet and have never bought this brand before.
Thanks 375rum

I've read what you read, and I've read otherwise. Shot 400 rounds on Monday. 1400 rounds in the last couple of months. No failures. Good accuracy. Don't find it particularly dirty.

Hate the overkill packaging, we dump them into ammo boxes.

IMO you're good to go.

Isn't that the truth. I wonder what they could slash off the price of this stuff if they put them on strippers, and threw them in one box.

If you hand load, you'd be better served using Winchester, as the brass is better imho.

In my experience it is decent ammo. Although I'm only on my second box of 200 so take that for what it is worth.

It doesn't seem that dirty compared to the Win stuff, but who knows? It is decently accurate though. When I used it to sight in my AR build, I put 5 shot group from a rest into a group the size of a quarter at 50 yards without even trying. First group out of that rifle too. Meets my standards for accuracy, especially for the price. YMMV.

If it is the 'yellow box' I would argue it is pretty good stuff....I shoot it out of my 700P and it is always under 1 inch at 100....Not bad for 6 bucks a box;)

I use it in 30-06 with no problems and infact shoots exactly like the 150gr hornadys that I use for hunting. I don't find it dirty at all and is accurate. Just my experence though, others may be different.

I shot 100 rounds of the 223 UMC from Armlite 180B and I was not impressed with it. Winchester had a much better grouping.
But a friend of mine whos got a bolt swears by it...
