Remmington 710

Ok, I've owned and used a lot of rifles over the years, I've seen some good bad and some plain old ugly, but I've never held a remmingotn 710 untill yesterday....

and ewwwwwww...... there is just something all wrong with that plastic bolt shroud/guide/receiver insert. Real rifles are made with metal parts. I'll never own a rifle that has a plastic insert like the 710.

I've heard that the plastic burns longer and hotter when you use the rifles as kindling....

I've had the "pleasure" of handling both the 710 and the 770, Some folks around here want a tough hunting rifle that is affordable and doesn't require much TLC. Unfortunately they choose this turkey. I had to tap open the bolt of a 710 that couldn't be pried open by hand. To my surprise, rather than finding a spent cartridge, out pops a loaded factory round! Oh well, at least the bolt handle didn't tear loose. The 770 was a brand new 30/06 whose action was so stiff out of the box it would have been impossible to cycle at the shoulder, even without ammo. In earlier times Remington managed to produce some pretty good economy class rifles like the 788 and the 78 Sportsman. The sooner the 710/770s fade into history, the better.
