I am trying to remove the barrel from my 870 express. No matter how hard I pull I can not seem to get it off. I am using the instruction in the owners manual but I can't get the darned thing off. Is there any special technique or tool to help me with this?

Merry Christmas:)

With the magazine cap removed, and the bolt unlocked, there is nothing mechanical holding the barrel in place. Can you hold the barrel in a padded vice, and apply a bit of penetrating oil to the barrel/receiver junction? Try wiggling the action, rotating the barrel slightly, and pulling. It should pull out.

The forearm has to be back an inch or so to unlock the bolt from the barrel, then with the barrel nut on the end of the magazine removed, the barrel should slide straight out . If it isn't coming out easy you have probably done something wrong. Now if it is a very old and neglected gun, the barrel may be rusted in place and some oil may help. But it should come out easily.

I have the version with the mag extension and I only took that off, not the magazine cap too. Got it figured out now, thanks for the help.
