Hi there fellers and ladies too!,

Just playing around with my "new" SKS

Just wondering if anyone has hints on taking the bayonet off. I don't think I want to carry it around deer hunting… The flat head screw has been punched on the other side, making it look like it won't come off, I tried but didn't want to strip it. All the modded ones don't have bayonets on them so…?

Thanks for all your help you bunch of canadian gun nutz! :d

that flat head screw should just come straight out, watch there is a spring in the handle, the blade will move with some force to it but won't shoot across the room, just don't brace it on your thigh :p .....they are pretty easy to take off man. goodluck

1. Sometimes the bayonet securing screw is punched 2-3 times to secure/lock it in place (these bayonet screws can work their way loose and punching the screws was the solution - especially on refurb rifles). Depending on how zealous the 'puncher' was - these bayonets screws can be tough to release. Use a proper fitting flat head screw driver and you just might need to use more force. I've only seen one screw punched brutally enough that it had to be drilled below the punch marks in order for it to come loose and as a result the bayonet screw had to be replaced.

2. Sometimes when the bayonet is fixed in the closed or extended position - tension of the bayonet on the screw can make a screw difficult to unthread. Simply place the bayonet in the nuetral position (same position you use to removed the cleaning rod) - sometimes this will do the trick.

Good luck
