Removing brass punch marks from pistol slide?

Changed the sights on my M&P and had to hit if fairly hard with the brass punch. Now there are brass smears on the slide and front sight.

Any suggestions as how to take them off? I tried a brass brush, then a steel brush on a Dremel, but I don't want to get too aggressive doing that and marring the Melonite finish...

Have you tried alcohol and wipes, or some type of "dish scrubbie" with various solvents?

Fortunately when I upgraded my M&P factory sights to Tritiums, I didn't get too much brass smear marks.

Any bore cleaner with ammonia will work well.

Post 2 and 4 and 5 nailed it... a copper solvent cleaner will chemically remove it with nothing abrasive to affect finish.

Use of the proper tool(sight press) & you won't kill a night sight before you get a chance at looking at them & you won't have brass or steel punch marks on your slide.
