I have a gun which I suspect is behaving badly due to built up oil, inhibiting its performance. How do you go about getting rid of this built up oil, both within the chamber, and on the bolt? Ibe been told by a guy at work to boil the bolt, but am unsure if this is a good plan. Is their a commercial cleaner which does this well? A "home remedy" to use?

break cleaner works good for me too....just make sure you put a thin coat of oil back on when you're done.

what sort of rifle is it?

As a habbit, I like to strip down used rifles when I get them.

You wouldnt believe some of the crud and oily mess I've removed from the inside of one Rem 700 bolt body. Probably 20 years worth of WD-40 buildup.
