I am replacing the elevation nut on my S&W revolver after I chewed up the slot trying to adjust it in a dark range (not good to go by feel.) I have the replacement nut and a snap ring (tiny split metal loop) that retains it in the sight frame.
I did the predictable prying with jeweller's screwdrivers but that ring is not coming out since the groove is deep and it's hard to lift it out and the ring feels stiff. Before I do something I regret and damage a part, is there a trick or tool to dislodge it and salvage the ring and nut or should I file through the ring and be done with it?
