Can anyone post pics of the tool used to remove the forestock on an 870? I want to fab up some kind of do-it-yourself spanner wrench so that I can switch out forestocks without buying the tool...and for fun. Any help would be appreciated.

I prefered to make some for use with a ratchet, just take the same dimensions as given above. The ones I made were 3/8 size, so the ratchet makes it easy to break them free with alot of control.

I use the other bit for butt stock removal.

I took a piece of 1" pipe and ground it away to leave two lugs to fit the notches in the mag tube nut. Then it drilled a hole thru it to take a piece of 1/4" round stock to use as a T-handle. Works fine, took a few minutes to make.

A few minutes is just about right, just made one like that exactly 20 minutes ago, works like a charm! Grinder and a zipcut disk is all you need.

It was a Gray 24mm (I gave the other away, so don't recall the size). Grays have a fairly thick wall so someone elses 25mm might co, but I can't garantee it.
