I have rust blued several firearms successfully, but I have never had the pleasure of doing one that was previously nickeled. What are a few effective ways to strip the nickel finish without dropping it in a bowl of diluted sulfuric acid and running a charge to the nickeled peices and a lead plate. Is there any other way of effective removal?

You just covered how it is professionally done is gunsmith shops. You could also soda blast the parts, which is easier on the firearm than sand blasting. Hope that helps.

Any tips for dilution of the hydrochloric acid and the rough soak time? Cheers

No sorry.

Found out the hard way how good this strips chrome plating when I wanted to remove some calcium deposit on my shower faucet and was out of bathroom cleaner stuff at that time.

So I took some diluted hydrochloric acid, had used the shower to spray the tub clean right before it and at the hot side the chrome was gone in no time.. cold side was fine.
So if you want to speed up the process, put your parts in hot water first.

Don't forget PPE! Its pretty nasty stuff.
