It looks like I will be buying an action for a project as the price is right but it is an engraved action right from remington. I would like to remove the engraving and was wondering if it's even possible. I hope to eventually get the finished rifle cerakoted and was wondering if the bead blast that you do to prep would remove the engraving? Or a light sanding? Maybe a filler? Or am I stuck with the engraving. The man selling me the action said it isn't very deep.

That "engraving" would require the removal of about .010" of material on the examples I've worked with. Not a real problem. Regards, Bill.

One could set the action up on a mandrel and turn it to remove the engraving but, in doing so, he would reduce the height of the receiver ring; this will lower the front base so the rear base would have to lowered a commensurate amount.
It might make more sense to simply drawfile the engraving off then repolish; leaving the scope mounting surfaces untouched. Regards, Bill.
