Removing rust from inside a 590a1 barrel

This past Sunday I bought a new Mossberg 590a1 from a local gun store. Upon bringing it home and taking it apart to clean and lubricate it I found rust inside the barrel. I've spent a large portion of this night with a bronze brush and CLP trying to remove it but some still remains. Does anyone have any ideas to remove the stubborn rust?

That's common on the 590A1. I don't know if it's actually rust 'cause I was never able to remove it from mine and it's never gotten worse. Maybe someone in the know can post their findings.

If it's actually rust you could try wrapping some 0000 steel wool around the brass brush, chuck up the cleaning rod in a cordless drill and run it back and foreth through the barrel. This has worked well for me to clean old hard cosmoline from Russian surplus rifle chambers that boiling water and solvent failed to remove.

There's tonnes of similar instances documented online. (check other forum postings from US based sites)

Steel brush, ATF, and a cordless drill. You will be surprised what it will clean out of a barrel.

usual from local stores , stored without oil or grease, in a humid environment for months ...

and rust is not covered under any warranty.

Many 590s have this in the chamber area. It's a smooth light orange colour and some owners doubt that it is in fact rust.

Like I said Google the issue. Lots of worried 590 owners out there the past number of years have talked about it.

My 20" has it, while my 14" does not. The barrel is fine and the affected area has not changed after many rounds, scrubbing and 4-5 years of storage.
