So one of my buddies left his rifle in his garage all winter since last hunting season and just took it out the other day. Any my oh my its in rough shape. I got most of the rifle cleaned up just the barrel is quite rusty got most off but is there anything I can use to get it off without taking off the bluing. I was thinking on just polishing the barrel and re blue it but if I dont have to and there is something easier I would love to hear.

Wipe Out is a great rust remover and it won't effect the blue. Wipe it on and let it sit for about 20 minutes then take 000000 steel wool add a few drops of Wipe Out to it and lightly rub it over the rusty areas. Repeat until all the spots are gone. One thing though, this treatment will take the rust spots right down to the bare shiny steel underneath the rust.

I stumble across this about ten years ago and have used nothing else since. It's great for cleaning the rust from antiques without removing any remaining original finish.

Thanks so much for this info!

I use oil and a copper penny, just make sure it's a 1985 or older I do believe before they were alloy and oil rub and wipe repeat, takes off the rust but not the good finish.
