bcos you dont need to remove the bolt to replace the stock.
if it is step 1, i use this technique, after you remove the trigger and mag, place the butt on the floor with the wood facing up and receiver facing down , and tilt the rifle on a 45* angle and hold the barrel with the left hand, with the right hand hold the stock and partly the receiver with your fingers, lift up the rifle and gently tap the butt on a carpet floor, repeat if neccessary. waa laa !!!! it will seperate.
as for step 2, i never had any problem with removing the bolt but now with the stock, mag and trigger removed , you should be able to see what is causing the problem of the bolt seizure.

Redeye, I hope you are not talking about the silly crossbolt in the side that is near the forearm...
As you do not need to mess with that at all. it's just there to add more strength to that part of the rifle during bayonet combat.

Thanks for the help - I realized after doing some more searching that that bolt doesn't come into play, which made it easy enough to do. Then I had to figure out how to get the handguard off the gas tube, ended up having to drill it out.
So I get the whole thing together and realized that the cheek piece makes it near impossible to use the sights on the rifle, so I guess I'm looking on eBay for an optical sight, fortunately they appear to be cheap and plentiful.

Something that you should look into are the TechSights. http://www.tech-sights.com/
They are very nice, give a longer sight radius and are hell of alot easier to shoot than the stock AK style sights. Windage and Elevation adjustments and just generaly nice.
+ no gunsmithing is required. It just replaces the pin that holds the receiver cover in. Take a look if your not looking for optical/magnified sights.

As the receiver cover needs to be able to move back an 1/8th of an inch or so to be removed from the back of the rifle.
It would be more user friendly, but less accurate if it was bolted to the receiver cover itself.
But the best place IMHO would be mounted to a small L bracket which attached to the side of the receiver, and held the rear sight just far enough back to allow the receiver cover to slide back for removal.

Like Curton said there is no better system for iron sights out there. The sight incorporates a through bolt system in place of the take down pin. This not only secures the sight to the rifle but also tightens everything up.Once the sight has been placed on the rifle, removal is no real issue as the set screws afford repeatable same spot mounting. There is hardly a difference between taking the sight off or using the take down pin. I posted in this forum under "how to hit paper" or something like that with a range report. Best sights for this rifle I've seen yet (and used).
No, it has a bolt. The amount of time is relative except you need an allen key. Take out the bolt, the sight comes off and the receiver cover opens. Clean, place sight in position, put bolt back through. Sight is now where it was with the same sight plane.Calum said:So are you saying the sight is removed by simply pulling a pin?
