Removing stuck bullet with dowel and .22 case

I would use a brass rod. No wood, it breaks and jams, no Aluminum, Aluminum oxide is hard stuff, and not good for your bore at any time. Id use steel before I'd use aluminum.

From the viewpoint of damaging the barrel I would never use steel to pound out a stuck bullet . Aluminum is far softer than steel generally speaking, and that's why gunsmiths use aluminum inserts on vise jaws to hold rifle actions they are working on.

I used the cleaning rod from my 91/30, brass rod from Home depot is on the list now!

I have twice seen barrels ruined by pounding with a steel rod. It slid off the point of the bullet and gouged the barrel.

If using a steel rod, wrap some tape around the rod, near the pounding end, of almost bore diameter. This will keep it centered. And another wrapping 18" back of it.

I've wrapped them in a spiral/ angle. Cover's the entire rod
