I looked it up at Browells. $150-$200 USD for the tooling
Any one rent out the tooling?
Anyone in the Lethbridge area want the job for a reasonable price?
Last crown job cost me $150.
My sks is hardly worth that.

The dave manson military kit looks good. Considering buying it for my 2 rifles and then selling it. Maybe get a couple guys together to split the price and ship it around?

So at Brownells I priced it at $53 for the 3/4" cutter and $27 for the brass guide plus shipping is a flat rate of $13 I think. You may need to call them to get that rate but they've always got my stuff to fit in a flat rate box for me. That brings you up to $93 US. So that's about $123 CAD plus tax if you get dinged at the border.

IMO it'd be worth it to buy it and sell it on the EE. It will sell quickly if you take a $50 loss and you'll have a perfect gunsmith quality crown job for your $50. Lots of .30 cal bubba's around to take it off your hands especially in the SKS and Mosin world.

First, let's see a pic of the crown. If it's not too bad, a brass bolt and some lapping compound will clean it up nicely. Touch it up with cold blue and call it done.

^^^^^

The only problem with this method is it's easy to mess it up. I've seen three people at my range in the last year who attempted this method and ended up with shots key holing. It was weird because I couldn't feel any edge but they're shots were definitely all over the place. I fixed one guys in 5 min with my tool, a cordless drill and some cutting oil.

The lapping compound is very gritty and will take way too much meat off.
After crowning with my Dave Manson military kit, I use automotive paint rubbing compound (Turtle Wax brown stuff) on the screw head with a feather light touch to put a near microscopic chamfer from the lands to the grooves.
Make sure the square edge between the grooves and the muzzle remains. The chamfer is only on the end of the lands. Light touch.
