OK, this is a semi-hunting related question, and could come in handy for hunters.

Any of you know of rental companies that rent pickup trucks and allow you to tow with them. i.e. a small trailer etc.

A few of the mainstream rental companies like Avis, Discount etc. rent pickups, but have a strict policy of no towing, even if the truck is equipped with a hitch. Essentially, if something happens, and they find out you were towing or it was a result of towing, your screwed.

One way I think I've found around this is to decline the rental insurance, and take insurance with your own auto insurance company. But even that does not work for most of the companies.

Not asking if you are allowed or not is one options and figure heck, if it has a hithc, i'm using it. But, as soon as you ask if it has a hitch, they tell you about no towing.

Any of you have any experience with towing with a rental truck?

We have an Safari van that has done our towing the last several years, but I'm not confident in taking it on the trip this year. Too much of a risk for it's age and condition. hehehe

Thanks.

Places like U-haul also rent trailers. Hard to say no towing if you rent the 4x8 trailer too. But anyway, who cares really. If you have problems, don't tell them you were towing.

I've rented trucks specifically for towing here in Alberta. You really have to shop around, as well as to get away from the mainstream "car" rental outfits, and look for the outfits that are more into supplying trucks to business users.

We rented for hauling a horse trailer, and got anything from a brand new, dressed up full size SUV (that was nice) to a decent, no real frills quad cab truck, with a big diesel in it (which made up for the lack of amenities, with power to pass on hills!).

They are around!

Damned if I can recall the names right now of the two outfits we dealt with in Edmonton, but they were not just local operations.

Cheers
