Renting Guns

Is it legal to rent a gun at a shooting range if you do not have your rpal?

The law does not change but the POLICY of the CFO can vary.

The club I am planning on joining has "club guns" for use but until you have your RPAL you need someone who is licenced with you at arms length.

Well I can only speak of my experiences at EESA.

At our club if you are a newbie member waiting for your RPAL to arrive.......the guys on organized Handgun nights are more than happy to let you borrow their guns if you bring your own factory ammo.

The given is that when your guns do arrive and you gain experience you will return the favor to the next crop of newbies..

some ranges have rental guns you can pay to use. TSE, DVC etc. most don't. most provinces don't allow it.

Here in alberta it is said you can not rent guns in Canada....however you can pay a range and use their guns without a PAL/RPAL. We got 2 ranges that do that as a business. You must have the range officer stand beside you though.

I thought it was a matter of insurance/ liability....

it has to do with clubs being not for profit.
