I've heard about renting handguns at ranges, but I'm unsure if that is something that happens in Ontario or just in the states. I'd like to try some more pistols before committing to buy. The range I'm a member of is an outdoor range and it may be very difficult to bribe anyone to trudge through the snow so I can shoot their guns. I sometimes get sent to winnipeg and/or oakville for training, so it would be nice to be able to check out some guns while I'm there. Even if its not possible to rent, I wouldnt mind finding out about some good stores in those areas so I can at least see some more models. Thanks.

My gun club in Montreal rents handguns for 10$ per gun. All you pay is ammo. I think its more of a club decision to rent or not then it is a country thing. Dunno about clubs in Ontario.

Dunno 'bout the rest of Ontario but at my club, a guest (maximum three times a year) can shoot club-owned guns (Free, no rental charge, no fee; just rent* the cartridges.) IF sponsored and accompanied by a licensed Club member (or if the club member is not licensed yet, if under the direct supervision of a licensed member. When still unlicensed (which I still am, (waiting for my plastic RPAL to arrive)) I took my unlicensed out-of-town-visiting brother to the Gun Club and got the Head of the Handgun Section (a RO) to supervise the two of us; one at a time....... CFO rules.)

*Yes, rent the cartridges. An unlicensed person can only rent cartridges to shoot at the club. Can't buy them and take unshot rounds with you.

What club, for members only or open to the public/no RPAL?

For Ontario, I only know of Target Sports in Toronto.

its a members-only club, but as a member i can bring any non-member friend or family, as many times as i want, for as long as i want, and the person only has to pay a 10$ fee. No RPAL, no course required, only needs to be under my direct supervision at all times. so 10$ to get in, 10$ for a gun if he's not using mine.
If its a girl, free to get in at all times, only need to rent the gun.

pretty sweet for people who wanna try.

the club is CTVSP.

hehe that was my first reaction too, but then i figured its probably more like theyre trying to be gentlemen, or are trying to have more girls join the sport.
