Hi everyone,

I repaired a Mosin-Nagant I've had for two years. I thought it was about time to fix the damaged stock. I posted the whole story on Milsurps.com (http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=4564), but here are a few pictures:

I cut the damaged part:

I fitted, doweled and glued a spare piece of wood:

I sanded, dremeled and chiseled the piece of wood:

Stained and refinished the repaired area. Relatively happy with this, except the colour match; I didn't use the right stain on the wood, I may redo the finishing part.

This non-matching Polish M44 is, I hope, a happier rifle.

Cheers!

Who knew grade 11 wood working classes would be used to fix milsurp rifles! I'm sure the teachers would not approve :) WELL DONE!

nice work

Nice work. In the future predrilling for dowels from the bottom of the repair patch not drilling through it would allow for a hidden dowel joint. Not bashing your work, just an observation.

Thanks 3screws, I do appreciate good tips!

Thanks Riflechair, Desporterizer. I can't remember which CGN member sold me this rifle, must be at least a year ago. Desporterizer, was it you? And, the wood used, well that's all I had around, I used good old black spruce, aka a chunk of 2 by 4 :)

Yes, it was me. If you want a replacement stock, zefarm has one for $15. I bought a finn m91(maybe m24), two hungarian m44 & a brazilian mauser stock for $ 70 shipped. Always good to have spare wood around, you never know when you are going to need it. I even buy broken stocks just so I can have spare chunks of wood to do repairs.

Thanks Dee, I never thought about contacting Zefarm, guess I will :)

So it was you who had that rifle before me! Hope you don't mind if I reblued the metal... Great shooter, I'm having lots of fun at the range with this one.
