I was wondering if any one has replaced thier factory Accutrigger with an aftermarket one from such companies as Rifle Basix, Sharp Shooter Supply or Timney.

The accutrigger is indeed an improvement over my previous experiences with factory triggers, but I have never become entirely comfortable with the "AccuRelease". And as I am extending my varmint shooting distances I feel that I would like to adjust below the 2.5 lbs trigger pull that the Accutrigger goes to.

Would I be well served to replace it with an aftermarket system and if so what would be recommended?

I shot a rifle with the sharp shooter supply trigger on it, it was an accutrigger replacement. It was similar to the timney on my mauser but I actually still like the accutrigger better. I have the precision accutrigger also which has made me hate my normal accutrigger now, but its made me hate my timney too.

100 bucks and your off to the races brother, if that is what you want. Talk to Mysticplayer (Jerry) as he is the Savage king and also a dealer of fine triggers and barrels.

Don't the varmint versions of the accutrigger go down to 1.5 pounds?? I am pretty sure that all their varmint rifles are equipped with these second type of accutriggers. Look at the spec data on their Varmint rifles. I am positive they have 2 different weight pulls, according to model of rifle.
This is directly taken off the savage website. The regular hunting models have a 2.5-6 lb pull, while the varmint/law enforcement rifles have a 1.5-6 lb trigger. That should be low enough.
Just read this:

What Models Feature the AccuTrigger

The AccuTrigger™ is available in all 12 Series Varmint, Law Enforcement, Muzzleloaders, the Model 40 Varmint Hunter, most centerfire hunting and rimfire models, including the Package Series. The adjustability range varies depending on the model.

In centerfire hunting models, muzzleloaders, the Model 40 Varmint Hunter, and most rimfire models, the AccuTrigger™ is adjustable from approximately 2 1/2 to 6 lbs. In the 12 Series Varmint and Law Enforcement Series, the AccuTrigger is adjustable from approximately 1 1/2 lbs to 6 lbs.
Comparing the AccuTrigger to the Competition

Savage used sophisticated software to compare objective measurements of their new AccuTrigger™ with competitors’ triggers. These comparisons confirmed there is a graphic and repeatable difference between the AccuTrigger™ and all other triggers tested. This objective method of testing demonstrated the new Savage system has a lighter trigger pull than all the other major brands. In fact, the AccuTrigger™ was lighter than a top-of-the-line imported brand and a custom aftermarket trigger. Testing also revealed the AccuTrigger™ was much smoother, crisper, broke cleaner and demonstrated less creep than any other factory-built trigger tested.

There is also a third type of accutrigger found on the LRPVs, F-Class, and precision actions. I have this trigger on my LRPV repeater and it is amazing. My favourite part of the trigger is that even though it is extremely sensitive it will not go off unless the pre-trigger (accu-release?) is suppressed. On a trigger that light (around 6 oz currently) if I close the bolt too hard I have to recock the action, if this didn't have the accutrigger I wouldn't be so lucky when accidents like that happened.

But that being said, talk to Jerry if you want a new trigger.

If you want to swap out your accutrigger I'll trade you straight across for my Stevens 200 trigger. After all, both are stock triggers, should be a fair trade.

I plan to send Mysticalplayer an email soon and see what my options are, being a gun part I am suspicious that I may be out of luck when it comes to ordering from the US to ship to Canada.

You are correct and my Model 12 VLP has that so I may not gain any advantage in reality. As I mentioned it was the best trigger that I had experinced at the time, however I gotta say that my Kimber Classic .22 has a trigger that I prefer. I can't honestly say what it is, it doesn't seem any lighter, perhaps a little less travel, it can't define it I just like it better. To compare a Savage trigger and the trigger on a higher end gun like a Kimber is a testament as to how good the savage product is, that being said I have to give the nod to the Kimber.

Once the barrel is worn out I plan to replace that with a match grade tube, and I am slowly building up the equipment needed for precision reloading. I just reshaped the factory stock for my hand size, so that leaves the trigger as the next essential component in my hopes of increasing accuracy.

You can order triggers from Sharp Shooter Supply and they will send them right to your house. Jerry also has other triggers for that action right here in Canada.

Sounds like you have the same plans as me. Good luck with the building and improvement of your precision rig.

Just replaced the trigger in my Savage 111 7mm RM with a Timney trigger. The timney is fantastic in comparison to the stock trigger, but I do like the AccuRelease/safety in my other rifles. I like to know it cant be slam fired even though the timney passed the "slam testing".

You can also order lighter accutrigger springs. I have 3 on the way from SSS. I will let you know how they work out.

I have a SSS comp trigger that I bought, but never put on my Savage.
I simply removed the accutrigger safety lever, which I found annoying,
and installed a lighter trigger spring. Light, crisp, and safe.
Slam tested many dozens of times.
