So today I bought a mossberg 500 spx tactical for what I thought was a great deal (lightly used and only $350) The dowel was not yet removed from the magazine tube but I assumed the guy was a hunter and thought nothing of it.

When I got home to remove the dowel from my newly purchased shotgun I discovered there was 2 dowels in the magazine tube. after a good hour of fiddling around I managed to get them both out. When I tried to load it up it would only take 3 shells. The 4th one would jam. It looks like the guy tried to unscrew the magazine tube and in the process he dented it causing it to jam when loading it up. I assume he tried to remove it because he wanted to get the two dowels out.

I've tried to reverse the damage using a clamp but with no luck.

Does anyone know where I can pickup a 5 shot 12ga magazine tube to replace this piece of S**t

Cheers!

If it's the 5+1 model; then this is the one you want.

By the way;

The magazine tube is simply screwed into the receiver.

It's a standard right-hand thread. Meaning that you turn it counter-clockwise to remove it.

You might need to use a strap-wrench.
And sometimes it's helpful to use a heat-gun, because sometimes loctite has been applied to the threads.

This is the 5 round tube . The +1 is in the chamber.

Cheers guys. I'm a shotgun newb so I didn't know the 6 round tube would work in my 5+1 shotgun. Although now is seems obvious.

Yeah. That's Mossberg's marketing department that refers to it as a 6 round shotgun. It really means 5+1.

Just to be sure; Measure your tube.

It should be sticking out about 14 inches from the receiver.
And there should be a 7/16" threaded hole at the end, where the barrel-lug attaches.

So I ordered it from brownells and was just sent an email saying I need a

Signed/dated purchase order on your letterhead stationary
BIS711 form
Import certificate or permit

Thought I only needed this stuff for orders over $100...

Seems like it's going to be a pain in the ass so I might check out western gun parts as TinkerBell mentioned.

western gun parts has it for $60

Probably just going to order it from them rather than going through the hassle of ordering it from brownells.

$60 is not a bad price too pay for the lesson I learnt when buying used.
