I am in the midst of a battle with the cfc re:grandfathering. Should I get the ####ty end of the stick, is there anyone here that does revolver barrel swaps and verifications? I have an older pinned barrel 4" Model 10 in near mint condition and don't want to give it up. I would lke to get a 4.25" bull barrel (similar to a stock one) installed if I have to.

Any ideas?

Most reputable gun smiths should be able to help you. But as with anything will cost for the price of the barrel and installation.

Ask around your local area where the closest S&W shop may be. MD Charlton has a shop in Victoria, BC and from what I understand, has another affiliate office in Ont. That company has been the S&W warranty shop probably the longest in Canada.

S&W didn't make a 4.25"HB barrel for a K frame. So if that is what you set on, be prepared for extra costs for barrel fabrication/modification to another, etc. Or be prepared to go with a 5" or 6".

Cost questimate, $200ish. More if smithing required.

I had a friend go through this a few years back. Had to get a 5" barrel for a Model 10. MD Charlton in Victoria did the work, but it took close to a year to find the barrel. This was at a time when a lot people were doing the same barrel swap, so that was likely part of the delay. I don't fault MDC. I think it was just a hard part to find at the time.

I checked with a local gunsmith about rebarreling a Mod 13 a while back. He would have to make a custom barrel from a blank, and it would not end up being round. More slabsided like a tricked out PPC gun. Wasn't what I was in the market for and I think it was going to be over $300 to do it.

You can also check the S&W part catalogue for your model to try to find a barrel in a given size and stock number.
