Can anyone recommend a replacement for the plastic stock that comes on these rifles? It is very flexible, and waaaay to short for me to use. Its a heavy barrel if that makes any difference. Would prefer something that is readily available, thanks for any responses.

I ordered one from boyds gunstocks (I bought a ‘tacticool’, which they now call a ‘pro varmint’). They offer several types. Get better bottom metal too, it makes a difference. DIP products makes some.

For what it's worth, I had the same debate last year. Buy a cheap Savage with a heavy barrel, and plastic stock - and then replace with a Boyds wood stock. Or, buy a more expensive Savage with the heavy barrel and a wood stock. With the currency conversion, shipping, duty, etc., it's cheaper to get the wood stocked Savage that you want as a single unit.

The Mark II BTV or BTVSS are mighty nice.

Except I already have the rifle, which is a great shooter as is. Just need to replace the stock. Looks like I'm going with the rimfire hunter. Thanks for the advice everyone.

A Boyd's stock in a ridiculous/eye popping color. Somehow it just suits the MkII!

That's exactly the plan for mine. I'm in same situation as OP so after shopping online a bit I narrowed it down to BOYD too.

Since this little guy only gonna shoot paper and gophers , may as well make it eye popping.

I'm not crazy about any of the color options that were available but ordered the forest camo laminate. Only noticed a regular walnut option tonight when I went back to the site :bangHead:

Oh well I can paint it. Now I need to find a source for the trigger guard etc.

Both are great options. I went with the Boyds on mine, but I put an MDT on my 22-250. It's actually pretty amazing the difference in accuracy a really good chassis can make...

I have no doubt there is merit to a chassis, but I wanted a fairly traditional stock. My next step is to try some better (different) ammo and I'd like to put a 10x scope of some kind on it. I've pretty much only used CCI in this rifle, Stingers and Minimags. It shoots fairly well with both, maybe slight edge to the minimags. The local store has some Federal Match but haven't tried it yet, the price scared me!

I shoot cci standard in mine and it shoots almost as good as the lower mid grade eley ammo. Past 50 yards the differences begin to show more but for within 50 yards cci standard wrecks squirrels eyes just fine. My gun isnt traditional looking in its chassis wearing a 8-32x50mm scope but it is more accurate then i can shoot

Well after another day of shooting this rifle I've knocked a couple types of ammo off the list. Federal Match, Eley Club, CCI Green Tag (all 40g round nose). The Green Tag shot the best of the three. The Federal was horrible, glad I only wasted money on two boxes of it. Round nose Minimags are still the best I've found, have to see if anything changes when the new stock comes in.

Also bought my son a new rifle today, he outgrew the Rascal he got last fall. Moving up to a lefty Savage 93R17 GV. Guess I have to start sharing my .17 ammo.

Thanks for all the suggestions, currently waiting for the rimfire hunter from boyds. I'm assuming no news is good news, most things I've read say they are pretty fast.

People keep saying to upgrade the trigger guard etc. I need to, as my current stock is plastic with trigger guard molded in. DIP is a company I keep getting referred to but who carries their products in Canada? I've searched but haven't had much luck. I'm looking for trigger guard, bottom metal, and maybe a one piece mount for whatever optic I end up swapping on.
