Have a Norinco M14 waiting for me.

It looks real nice, the only thing that bothers me is the fake flash hider that's installed.

Is there any way to get something that looks more like the original M14 one?

Paperwork will take about a week or so, after that I'll post pictures.

Fake? Except for neutered flash suppressors on some guns sold in the US, I don't understand the problem. Norinco M14 flash suppressers are fine here in Canada. Obviously Switzerland has some different rules for its imports.

The US Army had an SOB of a time getting the M14 front end parts optimized. If you were thinking of putting a USGI part on your Norinco, be aware there are differences in threads. You are better to find a genuine Norinco part that someone on CGN took off.

What makes you think the Norinco is a "fake" flash hider?

Here's the original GI:

The only difference between the 2 in this case is the bayonet lug. Even the Springfield M1A comes without the bayo lug. You can get the original if you can find someone to export one or check the EE forum from time to time. Oh yeah, you would have to use the original Norinco castle nut for the reason mentioned above.

The oem flash suppresors are not threaded. Its the barrel and retaining nut that are threaded. The Norinco barrel, its thread and nut are unique, but compatible with the USGI flash suppressors and muzzle breaks made for M14's and M1A's.

A lot of flash hiders originally made for the US market had no slots cut in them. It was a cylinder with some shallow flutes where the slots were supposed to be. I bet that is what Kampfhamster has.

You can try Marstar to get one of the current Noricino hiders, which is pretty close to the US version in form, minus the bayonet lug.

Oh right, I'd forgotten about that. As a mater of fact the only one like that I've ever seen belonged to one of the members here. Pretty weird looking:eek:

Originally for the California market where a flash hider was one of the parts that counted towards it being a "prohibited assault rifle". Then later adopted as part of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban. As long as it had no slots it wasn't a flash hider but a barrel extension and didn't count against you when tallying up your "evil parts" list.

you got it right. For some reasons all the Norinco M14's, that made it to Switzerland don't have these slots.

Already contacted Marstar if they have spare flash hiders, I need magazines anyway since my rifle only comes with a single 5 rd mag.

If you can't get one, the "easy" solution is to run a cutting grinder to make new slots, and then clean out the interior with a large diameter bit.

@maple leaf: that's what a buddy of mine did with his mine. He gave it to a friend of ours, who's a gunsmith. I don't know yet what the result looks like.

I'd prefer a new one, though.
