I'm not sure is this is in the right part of the forums, but here goes:

There is a rather specific firearm that I would love to own, but there are relatively few of them in existance, and from my best guess, no more will be produced by the original manufacturer.

So I began to wonder if it was possible, after obtaining the pertinant schematics, to have a restricted firearm produced (namely a revolver). Is there a gunsmith who can perform such an operation for me, as I'm relatively unskilled where machining is concerned? Or would I have to consult the CFC, and then find a willing machinist, and produce this firearm as a "home-built"?

Thanks,
Yenner.

In theory it could be done as long as the finished product is not a prohibited firearm. To produce a revolver from scratch as a 1 of would be possible but cost prohibitive. As far as thge CFC is concerned there is no problem, you would need to have a makers name on it (yours for example) a model and serial number. The gun would need to be verified and photos sent to Ottawa for the techs to add to the registry. I build my own actions for single shot rifles , the cost of having the action proofed is substantial, I would think few machinists or gun makers in their right mind would undertake such a task strictly on the liability issues

Thanks for the reply,

I realized the cost-prohibitive nature a while ago, I was just hoping there was someone who knew better than I did, and might have a few pointers. Ahh well. Might as well file this with all my other pipe-dreams, and just buy something off the shelf.

"...schematics..." These are just line drawing with no dimensions. Without the correct dimensions, "cost-prohibitive" becomes a polite term for unbelievably expensive.
