Hey Troops...maybe someone out there can help...I can't seem to find a load. I'm looking for a 45/70 load for my Sharps. I have a bunch of 525 grain lead some of which has been gas checked. I want to use IMR 4198 as I have a couple of kegs of it, any suggests?

i use 5744 for blackpowder simliar velocity loads with 535 lyman postell bullet works fine , you can use gas checks but not necesary, with blackpowder use a single wad cut from milk cartons over the powderseat the bullet to that, i think you should use blackpowder it works best for me,

Ken Water's 'Pet Loads' shows a 45-70 load of 31.0gr. IMR-4198 using a 518gr. Ohaus No. 45500R cast bullet. It's listed as safe to use in any of his 3 'Relative Action Strength' groups, and should be a pleasant shooting load out of your Sharps.
I agree with wade above though, and shoot only blackpowder in my Sharps, with any weight plain base bullet.
Regards, DaveF.
