I just ordered an XCR in 6.8 for next years deer hunt.

Anyone used an XCR and/or 6.8 yet?

As far as I know, the only "premium" bullet loaded for hunting is the Remington Core Lokt Ultra 110 grain. Anyone know any others?

I think I'm gonna top it with a Burris Fullfield 30 or a Nikon Monarch on 3-9 or 3.5 - 10.

Thanks in advance.

AB.

Im afraid of that too, but out of the 3 calibres available, the 6.8 seems most up to hunting. The 7.62 by 39 might be OK, but maybe out to 200 or so....

That was an appealing thing about the XCR... If 6.8 goes tits up, Ill geta .223 or 7.62 conversion kit.

But from the published performance of 6.8, I hope it holds up. Barnes just did 3 bullets I read somewhere, so maybe it's getting popular?

As for the SAUM's, what was Rem doing thinking they could compete with the WSM's after they just came out and had basically established themselves? Seemed silly to me. But the 6.8 has no competition really.

Still hoping to hear from someone who used it. Anybody? Maybe I'm first???

I think we're thinging of different rifles. As far as I know, this is an XCR:

And it's available in every big game cartridge that's popular, up to .375 if I remember right.

Yup. Different guns.... HAR!

I was going down the Robinson Arms XCR route... Black gun and all.... The fact that Remington had an XCR was lost in my mind I guess... Lesson learned to be a little more precise....

Oh well....

Anyone with an RobArms XCR thats hunted with it?

About 1700 ft/lbs at the muzzle, roughly the same as a light load in the 300 savage. Should be fine for deer / black bear at reasonable ranges.

I think there is a 115 grain Hornady and IIRC, Nosler has a 110/115 gr. Accubond.

I was curious what this firearm looked like. Found this on Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robinson_Armament_XCR

My hunting partner hunts with a Ruger Mini chambered in 6.8 SPC. He has a love/hate relationship with this firearm. Getting it to shoot MOA has been his dream, but it is yet to be accomplished . He has taken a couple of whitetails with it, & carried it bear hunting this year. IMHO it is an experts weapon that should be used at ranges NOT exceeding 150m.

while waiting for my 6.8 conversion kit i bought 100 rounds of remington match ammo, and i also picked up a box of barnes tsx 110 gr. bullets hoping to reload them eventually but i think they are way too long.

i only compared them side by side, but the barnes 110 gr would sit about 5/8" into the case, severely limiting powder capacity.

i will be exchanging the 110's for some 90 gr of whatever i can find.

There is too much else to do in life to become expert at shooting 150m on a range with one gun in an obscure calibre. (But if you are developing that expertise also with a bunch of other guns and calibres at a variety of distances, that'll be fine.)

Yeah, I like to play. I only plan on using it for deer in the bush.

I do like "different" calibers though. I have a Tavor coming, and I will use that for seal and caribou up here, I use my .257 Weatherby R93 for deer most of the time down south in Saskitchistan, and I use my .308 for elk and moose... (I know that one ain't that different) or sometimes my .45/70. I've been successful with all so far, oh and I've dropped a deer with 7.62 by 39 as well.

I don't have much trouble shoting long distance, and I'm comfortable on deer out to 500 with my .308. Just wanna learn a new one. And I have to say, the black gun thing turns my crank now.

Yup, that's how I'll be doing it. Non-restricted it is. Word is they have a .308 coming soon as well.

Hunting rifles follow military rifles... What's used in the last war gets used for hunting by the current generation. After handling a few black rifles, I can see the advantages for hunting. Lots of composites, so those parts don't rust or change shape depending on conditions, easily cleanable in the field, and rugged construction.

Besides, I have to admit to enjoying being on the "controversial" side of things. Should be enjoyable. Looks like I could be one of the first to take an animal with 6.8 in an XCR in Canada. Certainly haven't seen anyone else say they've done it yet.

Ahhhh. I must say im surprised. I always assumed they were based on their looks (our gov't doesnt seem to have any problem restricting other guns based on looks).

See looks aren't everything.. I thing the classification based on looks is very non-productive.. Mind you so are mag limits, length limits and caliber limits...
