Spoke to an anr for the algonquins last night about what it takes to become an algonquin and benefit from the land claim.. Turns out if you can trace your ancestors back to any one of the people listed on this link you could count.. http://www.blaneyalgonquin.com/files/algonquin/PreliminaryListAlgonquinAncestors.xls ... Most of these people lived around the 1840s so about six generations ago.. It seems possible if you can prove your 1/128 algonquin you could receive these benefits including being able to hunt outside of our laws..
