Greetings my friends,

One thing that has interested me since I began to collect Gewehr 88.05s, is the Fashi serial number that is present on the Czech replacement bolts ordered from Czechkoslavkia in the 1920s.

Initially, I thought these bolts were serial marked to their respective rifle using the original German serial number or Turkish applied serial number as a reference point but translating some of the Fashi serial numbers for my 88s, even matching ones, seems to not support this theory.

My guess is that the Turks applied the Fashi serial numbers to the bolts as per the contract amount and not the respective rifles in general.

I am also trying to figure out the single capital letter that is stamped on the underside of the bolt handle root. Every Czech contract bolt for Turk Gew. 88.05s seems to have this and I believe it to be of Czech origin. My best guess is that it is an inspector's initial but I am unsure.

Since little to no research has been done on this, I am interested in seeing how high the contract number is. As such, I am going to be translating the Fashi serial number that is present on the main bolt body of the Czech bolts I have for my 88s along with the "inspector letter" on the underside of the bolt handle root and posting it here for everyone to see.

If you have a Turked Czech bolt for a Gewehr 88.05, please feel free to post your translated serial number here or if you are unsure, post a picture of the Fashi serial number along with the capital letter stamped on the underside of the bolt handle.

If you feel comfortable, feel free to post the serial number, as stamped on the receiver of the rifle, so we may either support or rule out the Fashi serial number to any particular rifles instead of the gross bolt contract amount.

With luck, we may be able to see a pattern develop and actually be able to answer this question or form a likely hypothesis.

Thank you for your help everyone.

Attached are reference pictures for what I am looking for as well as a Fashi to Arabic numeral reference image (image borrowed from google). The attached Fashi serial number translates out as: 41577.
