Same here. Quick neck size/chamfer on Lapua and Alpha brass. I skipped the neck sizing on the first batch of new Lapua I loaded and ridiculous neck tension.
Well guys one thing that is for sure is my 308 Lapua brass has rediculous neck tension. I neck sized them and neck tension is still very tight. Tried full length sizing and same result.
Suprisingly the new Lapua brass has poor runout at about .003-.006" out of the box. Stays exactly the same after either full length or neck sizing. After being fire formed the runout goes to a more reasonable .001-.002" when reloaded a second time.
I am getting not so great accuracy with the Lapua brass usually over 1 MOA with flyers. I'm pretty sure the main culprit is the tight as hell neck tension.
I expected good accuracy from the new Lapua brass but so far it SUCKS!
I get .5 MOA out of Hornady brass with very close to .001" runout across the board. Neck tension is super consistent. Hornady brass is blowing Lapua brass out of the water for me. I thought I would have a better easier time with Lapua-but hell no I'm not.
I'm not familiar with the huge selection of dies available to us. What neck expander mandrel do you guys recommend i pick up to get this Lapua neck tension under control? What are my suggested options to fix this issue? Something needs to be done because this blue box of brass is basicly useless as it is. Almost shave the copper jacket off the bullet trying to seat them lol...

I use the Sinclair, it's relatively cheap and gets me the right neck tension with the new brass. I have prepped, mesured and fired thousands of Lapua's and they are all great in runout, neck wall thickness and volume consistency (h20 NOT weight). My only complain is the primer pockets are tight on the first priming with 210M. Not sure what's wrong with your batch.
Primers went in nice with CCI BR2 but yeah the neck runout is disappointing in my batch. Plus the neck tension. I use the same dies I use with my Hornady brass which has nice consistent neck tension.
Is the Lapua brass more "springy" maybe? I wonder if I annealed it would it soften up and open up the neck a little more when I run it over the expander?

I have had boxes of Lapua 308 that were ready to load. I have also had a box of 308 and 223 that needed sizing just due to the necks being slightly dinged, otherwise they were fine dimensionally.
The best, most consistent brass I have tried is Alpha brass. They come in a case that keeps each case in place individually, ensuring perfect necks and dimensions and can be used to hold the loaded rounds. I ended up measuring the oal, necks and shoulders on 200 pieces because I couldn't believe how consistent they were. All within 0.0005" on every area of measurement. All of them. They have also been producing the lowest SDs I have ever had.

I heard a lot about Alpha, all very good feedback. How much do they cost vs the Lapua equivalent?
If I recall correctly they were basically the same cost.
I got mine from Gary at Bighorn Sales, best to check with him on price. I'm using 6mm Creedmoor but next time I need brass, 308 or other I am going Alpha. Not knocking Lapua either as it is great and going to Lapua from the other domestic brands was a huge step up. I just feel like Alpha is another step up at really no extra cost.
