sound like a broken spring and no, those locking pieces should not be vertical. angles makes it lock better and solid.

matter of fact, this folding mechanism is the best i've experienced, better than the galil mechanism i once had.

the only thing i dont like about it is its fixed to the trunnion.
 
yup, which mean you need to drift out the hind pin rivet out first and then find replacement, not easy considering its not in the spare parts kit. check with TI.

but before you do that, is the locking button on top mushy?
 
Fact of the matter is that u have obviously received a LEMON. I have been thoroughly following posts and reviews regarding the Type 81 on all forms of media since the day they were announced and you are the FIRST person ive come across to experience this. Id be contacting TI to resolve the issue and I hope it is to your benefit.
