What is the most durable way to restore aluminum bottom metal?
I have 2 guns that need bottom metal fixed. They are chipped and scratched. I have access to a bead blaster so cleaning them is not a problem.
Tremclad spray can was my last choice, I think it would scratch easy.
Any better suggestions?

go to an auto supply house and buy an rattle can of trim black. bead blast. spray with two or three light coats. the thicker it is the easier it is to chip. let it air dry for a couple of hours then throw in the oven at 200 degrees for an hour. I did a few bottom metals this way before I started using cerakote. very durable and looks factory.

VHT brake caliper paint is very durable once baked on. It's not cheap, but probably cheaper than cerakote. Don't bake the clear though, it yellows if you do. I found that out the hard way on a 10-22 trigger mechanism, and it's a bastard to get off.

I'm going to give the VHT paint a try as they have it in stock local.

This is what my bottom metal looked like.

Bead blasted it and painted it with VHT brake caliper paint.

Baked it in a oven for an hour after it was dry to cure it.

And this is after it came out. It will be interesting to see how it holds up. Very happy with the finish.
