I submit this to the local experts. What am I going to need to bring this back to it's original splendor? I will say this up front. I like nice wood, so, if there is any reproduction wood out there that looks great, I'd be game.

your sling is on inside out, hooks should face away from wood.
you need foreend, handguards, band, rear sight guard, and nose cap, as well as the bolt and mag if you dont have them. no repro wood to my knowedge, and finding a good set with no ishy screw will be difficult

In addition to what scott585 said, you`ll need the little parts too, fore end stud & spring, rear nose cap nut & screw, front nose cap screw. when you get a new fore end, strip all the metal pieces from your sportered fore end, look in all the holes for hidden washers, and any other little bit you see. if you throw them out or don`t realize that those are there, it`ll cost more money. you can get walnut replacement wood from Numrich, extortion on the shipping. but if you want coachwood (Lithgow used this wood), maybe some one from NZ or OZ can help you out there. liberty tree has stuff too, and lots of guys here can help with parts and advice.

Kind of suspect any stock that looks like that would be expensive these days. Lot of commercial hunting rifles don't have wood that nice.
Check the headspace before you do anything. If you're doing it for your buddy, ask the guy how much money he wants to spend first too. A rear sight protector, for example, runs $9 each from Marstar. $8 for an 'outer band'. It'll be expensive.

A Queensland maple stock will be very difficult to find and likely be very expensive if you do. Looks like a nice hunting rifle. I'd leave it and buy a full wood.

Do you mind if I ask the first two digits of the serial number and is there a 4 stamped into the top of the action?
