Hi. New here. After reading this site for days I joined up. Love all the great info so far.

I'm having a hard time knowing what class certain firearms fall into. Particularly the AR style. How do you know? Is there a definitive list anywhere on the net?

Thanks!

No nothing like that. No worries.

What I meant was a 22 that looks "AR style" which class and is. How do I know if its non-restriced.

what model? there is some that have a similar action as an AR they are restricted! then there is some that were a previous action to a non restricted version just with a body of a looking restricted. (like a fiero with ferrari body kit)
easy step would be get your restricted pal or ask a store rep before you buy.

how bout you tell us what you're looking at and we'll tell you if it's restricted- there's really no rhyme or reason to the restricted list

Thats why I'm looking for a list of some sort.
At the moment I want the Ruger sr22
Does Canadian laws frequently change? Will the sr22 be restriced one day? What happens to owners with a non-restriced if it does?

no, you need an order in council , really- the rcmp back-doored us on the t-97, and there's a few others, but a common gun like a 10/22 , a beretta, or a 1911 are safe enough- it's when you get the so-called "weird " things like the uzi that you get into trouble
the sr 22 SHOULD be an unrestricted, ( it's just a 10/22 in a funny dress)
as far as the rest of your question, you get a letter in the mail telling you have 30 days to turn the gun in right at the moment- there is NO GRANDFATHERING- then they send the goon squad around and TAKE IT FROM YOU
