restricted manhurin pp

I have a relative with a prohibited Manhurin (Walther) PP. I would hate to see it get melted down so does anybody know of a way I can convert this to a restricted state? I.E new barrel etc. I don't care what cal. it ends up being.
 
you can rebarrel, 380 would probably be the only easy option, but if the pistol is 32 you may not be able to get it to extract. There where .22 versions as well, but i'm not sure that you'd be able to convert a centerfire model easily to a rimfire, I think the slides where different. Or your relative could sell it to anyone with a 12 6. If it's not 32 i'll purchase it, (i already have a 32)
