Restricted online purchase ?

Sorry if this is a dumb question .. I searched through the newb faq’s and didn’t see any direct answers to my question .
Just wondering what’s involved in a restricted firearms purchase .. and specifically, an online purchase .
I have had my restricted pal for 10 years, but have never purchased a restricted.
With all the anti gun talk as of late I figured maybe I should get one while I still can .
Is it as simple as giving my pal number online and clicking buy ? Or do I have to belong to a range first ?
I plan to join a range because obviously I’m going to want to shoot it once I get it. But as of right now, I dont have a membership. Can I order myself a handgun and then join a range at a later date ?

And while I have the attention of some experienced hand gun guys... any recommendations for a cheapish (under a grand) centerfire pistol ? Something basic and reliable. That’s probably a pretty vague question, but a few suggestions of models to look at would be appreciated . I have zero knowledge of handguns .
Oh and I’m not that fussy about caliber . 9mm will prob do the trick . But I’d be open to any .

To buy, just order off the website as you would any other online purchase. The website will ask for a bunch of info they need to initiate the transfer, and then they’ll hold the gun until the transfer is approved. To get the transfer approved, you’ll need to show proof of range membership - if you don’t provide it, there will be a delay while they send you a letter asking for it. Once it’s approved, they ship it to you. You can pick it up from the post office and take it home, but you can’t take it to the range or anywhere else until all the registration and updated RPAL (with attached conditions) comes in the mail. That’s based on my recent BC experience, yours may vary.

Personally, i’ve had my eye on the CZ75, which often goes on sale for down around $800. Some people swear by the budget Norincos, others swear at them... If you ever make it to bigger centres (Vancouver, Calgary) there are ranges that have a selection of guns you can try.
 
In BC you need to be a member of a range. The BC CFO will not complete the transfer until you provide range membership details (and in some cases with online purchases you would need to specify a range at time of purchase).

If you want to buy right away then join Silvercore, then join a local range later. BC CFO accepts Silvercore as a valid range membership.

What is your price range for a pistol? 9mm is cheap(ish) to shoot so that is a good start calibre. As per poster above, I would also recommend a CZ75 Shadow. $800-900 range
 
Thanks for the replies . So I do need to join a range . I may go the silvercore route for ease and getting the gun quicker .
Going to make a call to the nearest range here and see what it’s all about . I’ve never even been to a range . So maybe this is a good thing . Belonging to a club and shooting more often can never be a bad thing .
