Hello,

Just want to clarify with the community. I'm going to purchase a restricted firearm and seller - this is retailer, actually sponsor of this forum - requesting me to fax copies of both sides of my RPAL and credit card.

Is it typical for such type of transactions ? Why do they requesting that ?

Thanks in advance.

The RPAL maybe but not the credit card, the numbers on both are all they really need to do business. Never heard of faxing a credit card..I wouldn't do it.

X 2... RPAL I've had to scan and send a few time, but never my credit card... I'd just send your digits.. Like Skinny said. I also wouldn't do it.

I think I know which dealer you are referring to. I made an inquiry to them at one time, but later elected to buy a different gun. They stated the same requirement to send a copy of my credit card. From what I can tell, they are a reputable dealer but I wasn't comfortable with sending a scan of my card either. Had I decided to buy the gun from them, I was going to call and ask if other payment options existed, like Email Money Transfer. You may want to consider doing that.

The request for a copy of the RPAL makes sense but I don't see the need for the credit card, especially since other payment options may exist.

Buy somewhere else. Let us know what the make and model is and maybe we can find the same model at another store which will respect your personal information. I'd never send anyone a copy of my credit card. They don't need it. Why jump through hoops when you can buy somewhere else on a good online checkout, 30 seconds and you are done?

I know SFRC asked me for a copy of my PAL and I gave it to them, nobody has ever asked for a copy of my Credit Card... I would call my CC company and ask about this procedure.

They want to see the 3 digit # on the back of the card. Not sure why they're being that careful. If you're buying a restricted firearm, it's hard to imagine that you'd use a stolen card number. The big issue I'd have, once someone has that 3 digit #, it's easier to make purchases on-line. If this is a big dealer, with numerous employees, any one of them might have access to your card.

First place I checked for ya have several in, its Ellwood Epps. Good place and have never asked me to photo copy them my CC before.

What store ws it that asked for the CC photo copy so I know to stay away from???

This is CRAFM. They promised to destroy CC information after transaction, though.
I looked at Epps, have several references to them. They web form asking about CC security number, date of birth, that is generally private information but available with copy of RPAL, but place of birth as well !!! So I'm not sure about privacy in that case ...

Ive bought from crafm in the past, first purchase with them was a pistol too buit they never asked for a photocopy of my CC.
You give them the 3 digits on the back and it should be good enough

Everything else is normal except for the copy of the CC. So it is up to you. Pay cash, MO or EMT to CRAFM. Also you are not far from them, they are in Montreal. I think they have the best price on this pistol.

Place of birth is for the CFO usually. Some ask, some don't. Also expect your Gun Club info. I was asked what my club member # was one time...

i wouldnt give a copy of my credit card.....its bad enough giving your info to somebody that answers the phone. Then calling the next day for tracking number and them saying we dont do sales over the phone .u must order online.....I called the credit card company immediatly ...They have no idea who took my order, could've been the clean up crew
