restricted to prohib licence...

For the most part no.

It is possible to get grandfathered for 12(6) prohibited handguns if the handguns were made before 1946 and they were registered to an immediate family member (eg. brother, mother daughter. father). Your licence would indicate 12(7) possession for those guns only.

I've heard of some ppl that did. They had prohibs registered in their names under the old system, but somehow it was missed when the PAL system was rolled out. From what I've heard they contacted the CFC and got the correct 12(x) designation on their PAL.

Yes but I don't think I would consider them an "ordinary gun owner". They have it because of a particular situation they had at the time. Anyone who did not have that kind of situation will not be able to.

I hope to have may 12(6) shortly. I'm waiting for a judge's decision from a hearing I had in March. I have a particular situation that is far from "ordinary".

Guy I know forfitted his 12.6 to the local cops when his FAC expired.
Contacted the CFC now that he is trying to get his PAL, and asked if he could get his 12.6 since he had 3 firearms meeting the REQ that belonged to him with the local police ... CFC didnt' have a problem giving him the 12.6 status.

He kinda figured they'd be long gone.

Again not an ordinary. situation. As long as he had registered 12(6) guns (even though his licence expired) he still complied with the requirements to be licenced for that class. He still would have had to have 12(6) guns previously registered and be the continuous holder of a registration certificate for that kind of gun. It makes no difference that the cops had the guns.

I owned many "12-6" handguns (and many other 12-x firearms) when I was 20-30, now that I'm 40 I'm not responsible enough to be trusted with them. The short answer is no, it is not possible. Remember that at election time.
