Just called the rcmp to complete a transfer. She asked if I was a member of a gun club, I said no right now the gun is for collecting, but in the near future I may be a member. She said ok its going to the province for approval and can take 2 weeks to get a response. In the mean time, the seller can't ship the gun to me. Is this a regular process? This is my first restricted transfer.

Do you guys usually ship it anyway or wait it out until it gets approval?

Oh, and when it gets approved who do they call? Seller or Buyer?

Thanks !

Standard process...however sounds like they quoted you two weeks so they can talk to you about your "collector" status. The CFOs of the provinces generally require you to prove that you are a target shooter (proof to them being a club membership) or a collector (thay have criteria for this). If you do not have a range membership, they generally will not give you an Authorization to Transport either. I don't know where you are located, as certain provinces have additional hoops to jump through.

As far a shipping the gun before approval is obtained...not a good idea. However, I have been known to "lend" a gun to a prospective buyer for "evaluation" before the transfer is complete.

Seller initiates that transfer usually and you complete the transfer is what I have been experiencing.
