Hi all,

My wife and i just got our first pistols. The notice of transfer came in but we are waiting on the registration to come via mail

My wife thinks we can take them to the range with the notice of transfer but i say we need to wait for the registration.

Whos right?)

You got a good one there! Be patient. You are from BC?
You'll be shooting next weekend, 99% certain! What kind of gun(s) did you get?
Spend the week practicing your fundamentals and familiarizing yourselves with the guns!

Alberta. The cfo told me the registration is on the way.

I told her to call the cfo if she did not believe me, but she has not done so yet.

We each got a berreta 92fs

Don't flame me, but I've never waited for the registration to show up. Hear me out.

The info contained on the notice of transfer is the same as the regie: difference being the layout.

I spoke to the Quebec CFO when I first started buying firearms and was always impatient about the wait. Both Restricted and NR back then had certs. I asked the CFO if I needed to wait; the answer was "you should". I then asked if anyone was ever charged or prosecuted for having the notice of transfer but not the Cert; each time they said they never heard of a case.

One man (from France who was working for the CFO) explained that the notice of transfer serves as proof the firearm is yours. It's why you're allowed to take possession of your firearm and ask for an ATT to take it home. It says so right on the notice. It does not say to wait for a cert before getting an ATT and/or taking it home. The firearms is already yours at that time, and if you're allowed to transport it (via an ATT) to your house or back and forth to the club, you're GTG. There is no need to wait for the other doc that contains the same info.

I've never waited ever since.

Called RCMP, the agent said Notice of transfer can be used as temporay registration paper, so you are good to go. You can call RCMP to make sure.

I called the CFO about the same thing last year. The lady said that the notice of transfer is good but that I can not take the gun to the range until I get a LTATT..I told her that I already have an LTATT and she said in that case you are good to go..

Sure would be nice if the folks at the CFO all got on the same page.

As long as the same page is the reasonable, logical common sense one ;-)

I've found the AB CFO office to be excellent!!!

Called my CFO twice in one day regarding a situation (not the posted situation) and got two different answers!!!!

Looks like it depends upon who answers the phone that hour/day?

I have come to the conclusion that common sense and due diligence is what really matters.

and that why you should wait, it's not the CFO that will be inspecting your paperwork on the roadside. Not worth the hassle.

Before September, I know when I got a pistol at the LGS, I had to get a SATT to bring it home, even though my LTATT was good till 2018
