Restrictions to export from USA? or it's only Cabelas

Yesterday I tried to buy from Cabelas USA some reloading equipment, billing address the same as the credit card (Canada) but to be shipped to an address in Washington. During the checking out process got a message that was something like … Cabelas understands that the goods are to be used in USA and not be exported out of the country… in case the user want to take them out of the country he is responsible of complying with USA regulations and permits, etc … . Is this only to protect their store in Canada (which charges over 30% more, even after compensating for the $ rate, plus $20 shipping instead of US$5) or there is now some restriction to export reloading equipment?

I want to start in metallic reloading, I tried to buy:
Lee anniversary kit
Two sets of dies
A length gage and shell holder,
A reloading manual.

The only thing good to be taken out of USA was the reloading manual, not even the length gage. By the way, the $5 shipping sale ended yesterday.

I tried first to buy from Graf & Sons (better prices) but they will not ship to an address different to the billing address of the credit card (it’s in their terms and conditions - I didn’t speak with them, maybe I just need to call and ask).

In summary, is it still legal to bring reloading equipment from the States?
 
I just got off a live-chat with a customer service rep at Bass Pro and they have no issue shipping me a Rock Chucker press and RCBS case prep station.
 
Thank you for the info. I can still order from Cabelas and have the items shipped to Washington. But I do plan to bring them here and I just not want to lie to anybody.

I will try those stores. I may even save a few bucks, Cabelas have now a store in WA, so they charge taxes if the shipping address is in the state.
 
This is just another manifestation of some utterly obtuse policies the US Dept. of State drafted with regards to the exportation of components that require an export permit.

Your items you've listed are completely legal to export from the US, but Cabellas stands to be fined HUGE for shipping controlled items out of the US without a proper export permit. To prevent them from being burned on this, they have such policies.

This xenophobic set of rules frustrates the hell out of me.

Take caution though, in the first place, discussions surrounding the importation of componenets without required permits are banned by CGN and also, if you are caught as the recipent of these goods, who knows what sort of "list" you may find yourself on when it comes time to enter or fly-over the US.
 
Yeah, I recently placed orders with Lock Stock & Barrel and Graf & Sons, both shipped presses, dies, and accessories to me (no brass, though).
 
The assessments here of Cabella's policy are overly harsh. The fact is that there IS a federal restriction on the export of reloading equipment. It is against US law to ship reloading equipment to North Korea, Burma, Libya and a couple of other nations. Rather than provide a long list of where the stuff can and cannot go, Cabella's just sticks in the words you see. There is no problem with exporting to Canada, and they certainly don't care if you do, but they are obligated to point out that restrictions on export may apply. Midsouth does exactly the same thing, with a prominent warning on the screen of every reloading item.
 
"...Cabela's has export restrictions on..." They don't have the U.S. exporter's business licence. Not the same thing as the export permit.
 
No problems with Bass Pro. I received a RockChucker supreme master kit for $343 CAD once the dust settled. I couldn't be happier with their service. It is completely hassle free, and no surprises at the door (eg. another $50 please, etc.)

Edit: That was after a $20 online coupon, so regular is closer to $360ish.
 
I've seen some good prices on Lee equipment at factorysales . com
They're like half a mile from Lee's factory.
I actually bought a melter and some molds. Shipped next day. UPS :(
 
This is a pure Cabela's problem, I think they have a glitch in their software, I spoke to them on the phone, but of course got no where. I was able to order shell plates for my Hornady Lock n load, and also rifle dies, but not pistol dies :mad:

There is clearly a problem with what is labelled as permitted vs. not permitted, not sure if/when they will fix this.

I have ordered all manner of reloading tools from sinclair, midsouth, lock stock.. etc after this issue, no problem with anyone else on ANY tool, obviously for projectiles, and brass you need permits.
