A resounding success with pics to follow. 13 Gunnutz (and three folks who volunteered to register and score) from Ottawa, Montreal, Cornwall and area braved grey skies, soggy ground and mosquitoes to shoot quite an array of fine WWII and earlier milsurps. Scores averaged 10% higher than last year and the variety was impressive. We even had a half-time cannon shoot! Here's how it all panned out (highest possible score is 400):

1 - Sticker - 327 - M1 Garand
2 - Maple Leaf - Eh (1) - 316 - LE No4 MkI* Longbranch
3 - Hitzy - 307 - Swiss K31
4 - Andy - 289 - Swiss Vetterli M69/71
5 - Maple Leaf - Eh (2) - 275 - SVT-40
6 - Vas - 266 - M1 Garand
7 - Boom-Boom - 256 - M1 Garand
8 - Fremen - 250 - M1 Carbine
9 - SKScanuck - 244 - Mosin M1891/30
10 - Three more wishes - 243 - Turk Mauser
11 - Rob Smith - 214 - Springfield 03A3
12 - Doug Dakin - 177 - LE No4 Mk1
13 - TBolt - 113 - Swiss K31
14 - React296 - 107 - LE No4 Mk1* Savage

There is another Milshoot coming up at the Smith's Falls Fish and Game Club on 3 Jun, and another EOHC shoot in September.

Hello all,
First, a big Thank You…for Andy and SKSCanuck for putting on the shoot. I had a great time, met some interesting people and got to shoot some old iron. Seeing all those old firearms was worth the drive in its self. I am now looking for a suitable MILSURP so that I can keep going to these informal fun shoots.
A second Thank You to Andy for lending me his fine shooting Turkish Mauser. I was surprised how well it grouped if I did my part. Next time I will pay closer attention to the rules and wont lose points in the snap shoot.
Thanks again and hope to see you at the range.

Here’s a picture of the gang just after the safety briefing.

This was about the time that Andy jammed his 130yr old Vetterli, and some wise guy asked if anyone had a spare gun for Andy. His momentary embarrassment was overcome, but has been recorded in perpetuity by this post!

Viewers will note he was dressed in black ankle shoes, gray wool flannel pants, a shirt, a tie (!), a post WWII Swiss uniform jacket, and the ever stylish Swiss wedge cap. Ask yourself, when was the last time you were on a range with a man wearing a tie?

Well...I save the next few pages of this thread for my excuses...

But Sticker is DA-Man...he's the marine in prone position..

I had fun.

I also see me and Andy mentioned above. Hitzy was a big part of this as well. :)

Cheers

That's "threemorewishes", and I think that the cannon was the high point of the shoot, with the pic of SKScanuck's ass being the low. Ignoring the unpleasantness of that last pic, it gives you a good perspective of the range and the distance to the targets. You young guys enjoy your eyes while they're good, because it gets tough after 40 to focus iron sights, and eyeglasses can only do so much.

As for the cannon, it was all homemade except for the barrel, and that sucker shoots a 1" 1300 gr ball over up to 200gr of BP. Now I want one!

Boys and their toys - I never want to grow up. :)

Hi Andy,

I want to thank you for this nice opportunity and I am already looking forward to the next shoot.

I will try to move up a few ranks........ :)

It also gave me an idea about the next gun that I should buy. :)

regards,

Sorry, no offense meant about the redneck and the cannon thing. :)

But he does have sheep boots on...and a home made cannon....

And why did anyone not tell me my ass looked big in those pants!

Well I had a blast. Shooting that little M 1 Carbine was fun. (and people say they don't shoot well)

Steve256 should have some pics up soon.

Yes, 23 of them.... camera was busy since I didn't compete.
I have em all zipped up here:

Surplus Shoot Zip Download
You can view them here:Surplus Shoot Pictures

I didn't get a chance to rename em, but I'll mention the important one. I'll get the video of the cannon firing up soon and the videos of the snap round, probably tomorrow.

In Picture 312 are the winners
From left to right,
Hitzy in 3rd, Sticker in 1st and Maple Leaf Eh in 2nd.

Ugghhh... sorry I missed it guys! I wanted to be there but I'm in bed with a terrible flu :( Ah well, if I'd have showed up I'd be eating crow to Hitzy again after another strong showing from him ;)

I'll try for the next one.

Turk mauser pointing at "the gang....."

Yea, it is, but remember there's a naked babe on the other end so it's ok according to Gunnutz rules.

It was empty and had the bolt out as well.
