Resurrecting photos from the dead!

Does anyone know if missing photos from old threads can still be viewed? Do they expire after a certain amount of time? In some posts, I only see a blue square with a question mark, rather than the photo the OP posted.

Been doing a lot of reading from posts up to 4-5 years ago and I would love to see the photos that go along with them.

If they are no longer hosted on the site that has been linked by the original poster (or they are old Photobucket pics hosted before they decided to charge everyone) then they are gone.
