Hello all!

I do not know about you, but I have always really enjoyed shooting shotguns. There is just something about touching off a 12 guage that rings with confidence and finality. One however, most shotguns come with stocks that have a significant amount of drop at the heal in the rear butt stock.

Now While this does facilitates getting a good cheek weld (which is critical for accurate shooting of targets on the move), it contributes to what I consider excessive muzzle flip, and increases the recovery time until the next shot.

Those that were serious about shotgunning and quick shot recovery times, took a page out of the AR book, and adapted stocks so that they would be in-line with the barrel, which would allow the recoil to be direct straight back, and decrease shot to shot recovery time. That type of shotgun would typically look something like this:

Now when one considers the VZ/CZ carbines, these are no exceptions to the rule. Both the standard fixed and folding stocks that come with these carbines have a significant amount of drop at the heal, which create muzzle flip.

I was discussing this with Charles from NEA, and he told me he had a solution for that issue. Not that long after that conversation, I received a NEA AR-Stock adapter. I carefully inspected it, and then mounted them on my CZ-858 carbine, and combine it with an Endine Recoil reduction tube, and a mil-spec LMT carbine stock I had in the bin. It looks like this:

This adapter is one seriously solid piece of kit. It makes the stock line straight, and raises it to be in line with the barrel, there by significantly reducing muzzle flip with stock design alone.

The adapter is designed to work with both mil-spec and commercial buffer tubes, their end plates, and castle nuts. There is enough room to remove the dust cover with out adapter removal, and there is a small section of 1913 pica tiny rail machined in to the top of the adapter.

The gun to adapter fit was superb, but the adapter to end plate fit was extremely tight. So much so that on the version that was sent to me, the end-plate needed so persuasion to seat properly with a block of wood and a mallet. I have discussed this with Charles, and the next gen of adapter will have an additional 5 thousandths relief to prevent this in the future, and remedy this minor issue.

Over all, I am very impressed with this adapter, however I really think that the area of sling attachment could use some further refinement. The current version uses a integral sling loop on both side of the adapter, which adds to bulk. I really think that a step up would be to machine the adapter to accept push button swivels. The will allow for more flexibility on the size and configuration of slings used, and reduce over all bulk by removing the "sling loop wings".

I my opinion, with a few refinements this adapter will substantially enhance the handling and reaction qualities of the carbine, and I very much look forward to putting it through its paces.

All that is now missing is a reliable folding set of secondary sights.

However rumor has it that, that the small section of rail is to facilitate either a folding rear BUIS, OR a cantilever mount (in development I am told) to allow the mounting of magnified optics. Also in development is a forward, barrel mounted rail that will “spoon” the gas block so to speak and allow for the mounting of a front folding BUIS.

Guess I will just have to be patient and wait for what next. Times are good and exciting in the VZ/CZ world are they not??

Thank you for taking the time to read my review.

Regards and all the best

I wish I could try out your rifle before heading down that road myself, I wonder how much recoil is reduced with that setup....

tell us how it feels after you try it out

Muzzle flip and recoil reduction are fairly subjective.
The only way one can really get an appreciation of how well any particular system works is to perform identical drills and time them.

Anyone suggest a course of fire that can be used as a baseline to compare the different recoil/muzzle flip abatement claims as we move forward?

I think regardless of which stock adapter you buy, inline is inline. The NEA adapter was built with a specific purpose in mind. Back up irons and an attachment point for a quick release mount for optics over the dust cover.

While I would agree that reporting the "feel" of anything is subjective, I do believe that Muzzle flip can be empirically measured. The simplest way would be to simply set up a meter stick, have a shooter stand neutral, and to measure muzzle rise for 5 shots and take the average. Then change the stock alignment, and have the same shooter repeat the test.

Now while the above is not strictly scientific, and may not be 100% repeatable, it would give a good demonstrative value, and perhaps a general rule of thumb could be drawn from this.

Just my thoughts.

those enedine recoil buffer tubes work awesome.

i had originally bought one to go with my ar15/870 cqb adapter on my 870, but after i sold it, i put that enedine buffer tube on my cz858 with a stormwerkz setup and it cut out alot of the recoil:)

But in my opinion, on of the most solid and stable.

I'd have no problem butt stroking something or mortaring my VZ with that mount. There's a reason why AR tubes are threaded INTO receivers, and not surface bolted. It is one solid piece of kit. It does IMO require a bit of a diet. I made the same recommendation AB did about the QD sling points. That'll bring it all in nicely.

I'm a big fan of this, and the #1 reason is the Troy BUIS sights I have on the rail and on the front end. The sight picture is spectacular and has really pushed the effectiveness of this platform..

I have the adapter also, i loved the way everything mounts up and having a real stock, but for now i still need to be able to fold up my rifle and stuff it in a canoe or into a small rifle case. I need to operate it a lot with the stock folded. Great product and im hoping a folding version comes soon to resolve my issues. Very good product though.

With this adaptor the stock irons are very hard to use, IMO. Either go with an optic on the cantilever or AR BUIS on the rear adaptor rail and front clamp rail.
