Review of AWT Long range Chassis
I am not a military or police Sniper, just a long time shooting enthusiast, so take my opinion for what it is; an opinion. This rifle started out as was Savage 111 hunter in .338LM. I have more stuff coming, but right now its bone stock other than the Chassis, and this is review of the chassis not the rifle.
I ordered this chassis in flat dark earth for savage long action, and as you can see from the pics, it looks great. The finish looks exactly like it should and everything arrived well packaged. I also ordered mine with the optional front fore grip. It also came with 2 action screws and MOE rails for bipod/monopod with all required hardware. There is apparently a folding system in the prototype stages and soon to be available top and side rail kit as well as AR butt stock adapter. I will get the folder and the rail kit when they arrive and add my thoughts to the review.
The install for me was not totally drop in. I found everything fit, but the trigger and safety did not function. I sent an email to Shane (owner) who promptly emailed me back saying that I may need to take 1/16 of an inch out of the back where the trigger drops in. Apparently some problems with accutrigger. 5 minutes with a dremel and everything was fitted. I had one other small issue with installation, the front action screw was just a touch long and effected my bolt, another 30 seconds with the dremel and it was all good. Everything felt solid and fed fine from an AI 5 rd mag.
Overall impression
The fit and finish of the stock are great, it feels like a tank, if you run out of ammo you could beat someone with it and still not break it. The rails the stock are attached with looked flimsy in pictures, they are totally rock solid. Shouldering the rifle feels great. The stock requires and allen key to adjust LOP and the comb height is adjusted via a dial. The buttstock is simple and functional, it has everything you want, nothing you don’t. I had no problem getting it feeling great for me. The comb height needs to be brought up to remove the bolt, but works, the folder would be nice here. I also removed the front fore grip to see how that felt. Not awesome for a bipod, little to far back, however an atlas might work well here. It was fine if I were shooting offhand or from a tripod. Without it kinda looks like nemesis on steroids. The other thing I noticed is that I can probably get a savage barrel nut wrench on the nut without removing the action from the chassis, as I have plans to get a second barrel for this rifle this could be very convenient. The weight is 14 pds unloaded for rifle and scope (scope is razor, which a very heavy scope) . I find this pretty good considering a 110BA without optics is heavier. My only real gripe would be a lack of sling provisions. A couple flush cups would have been nice, and I think I will add some shortly. You can also use any rail mounted sling option via the 2 rails.
I can’t really comment yet on accuracy as I have only sighted in. so far my groups are looking smaller, but I have not spent enough time on the trigger to give a fair assessment. I will update when I have a more concrete idea on how this effected accuracy. I also have not had extensive use of other chassis and it would be unfair of my make a comparison without that knowledge. It is comfortable to me and vast improvement in ergonomics over the factory stock. I also think it looks great, should please the tacticool crowd as well.
Value:
This ran me $995 american with the foregrip. No duty (100% American made) and HST on delivery. I ordered direct from AWT. The owner is a great guy, answers his phone and emails promptly and really seems to stand behind his product which has a lifetime warranty. It took about 7 weeks delivered to arrive at my door, I am told this time will decrease as mine is of the first batch that AWT has made. This price point is on par with other chassis, and I imagine with the rail kit and folder I will be another couple hundred by the time I get it. I like that I can get just the components I want for my build. It is relatively light, functional and extremely solid.
I love the look and feel of this chassis, I would buy one again for future builds.
And now the Pictures….

without the front foregrip

Thanks for reading!

I like the minimalist look.

I don't know what to think of gun chassis because I've never shot one before. I do like this minimalistic look. No added crap or appearance "improving" things added.

I'd love to try a few out. I think I'd want a more perpendicular grip on a rifle like this though. Personal preference.

AWT has recently released pics of a folding kit for there stocks, although it currently looks like it is in the design phase still; also they now have a Savage S/A version available. When I have the money I will definately be picking one of these up. Thanks for the Review!

Unless a chassis is being made for looks, I have no idea why these chassis systems do not come with an ambidextrous cheekpiece.

Looking at the photos, it seems as though the cheekpiece could be reversed for left or right use? It it were made to extend over both sides of the stock, wouldn't it interfere with bolt removal? Just guessing here.

It does interfere with bolt removal at the height I shoot it at, However a short action would likely be fine, I also have the folding adaptor on order, which will elminate that problem. The the unloaded weight of this setup inlucing optics is 12.5 pounds, not bad considering the Razor is probably the heaviest scope ever built. I will weight both stocks when I get home and see what the difference is. The cheek peice is removable and can be reversed.
